    Questions to ask any agency

    1. Is the fee charged only on money actually recovered?
    2. Are there setup, letter or tracing fees?
    3. What happens, and what does it cost, if the debtor disputes the debt?
    4. How will you report progress to me?
    5. How do you treat my customers, and can I see the wording you use?

Before passing a debt on, make sure you've sent a letter before action and calculated any statutory interest you're owed.

    Common questions

How much does a debt collection agency charge?

Most commercial agencies charge a commission, a percentage of what they actually recover. The rate usually depends on the age and size of the debt. Some also charge upfront fees, per-letter fees or monthly subscriptions.

    What does HeyEngage Collections charge?

For commercial invoices under 90 days, 10% of what we recover. For 90 days and over, 12–15%. On eligible cases, if we collect nothing, you pay nothing. The rate is agreed in writing before work starts.

What does 'no collection, no fee' mean?

You only pay commission on money that is actually recovered. Check which cases qualify and whether any legal-stage costs are excluded.

Are there legal costs on top?

HeyEngage works mainly on pre-legal collection, so most cases never reach court. If legal action is ever worth considering, we look at it case by case, explain the options and any costs first, and nothing happens without your agreement.

Can I pass agency fees on to the debtor?

For business debts, the Late Payment Act lets you claim fixed compensation and, in some cases, reasonable additional recovery costs. Your contract terms may also allow it.

    Unpaid business invoices?

HeyEngage Collections handles the chasing and keeps you informed. Fees agreed before work starts. No collection, no fee on eligible cases.
